Many customers are surprised what is Extrusion? And when we will use extrusion processing to produce parts?
Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile. A material is pushed through a die of the desired cross-section. The two main advantages of this process over other manufacturing processes are its ability to create very complex cross-sections, and to work materials that are brittle, because the material only encounters compressive and shear stresses. It also forms parts with an excellent surface finish
Extrusion may be continuous (theoretically producing indefinitely long material) or semi-continuous (producing many pieces). The extrusion process can be done with the material hot or cold. The extrusion process in metals may also increase the strength of the material.
YMP just have experience to produce aluminum extrusion since 2012.When we get customers’ drawings to quote, we will choose the best processing to save the cost. Well, if the project has a good quantities in the future,opening mold is cost-efficient. Extrusion processing can save material cost indeed,also the material is stable with less impurity, it makes the parts have a very nice color after anodizing, especially color anodizing. The material we did extrusion is 6061-T6,6063-T6,but 6063-T6 is better for color anodizing.
CNC machining is necessary after extrusion, we may need to mill some surface or tap holes. If customer would like to get a good anodized surface, extrusion is the best. Currently we can’t get a good effect for die casting anodized parts, so most of our die casting parts are done powder coating or painting. In my opinion, anodizing surface looks like luxury, like Apple.
The bad news is that most of extrusion factory has a MOQ for extrusion material after 2017 year, MOQ is about 500KGS or 1 ton, it makes we need to know the exact quantities which we need.
